Singing Teachers

Veronica Veysey Campbell

Veronica studied at Trinity College of Music with Elizabeth Hawes and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Ellis Keeler. During this period she won many singing prizes and was awarded the prestigious Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Medal.

As a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship Competition, Alan Blyth in the Daily Telegraph described her singing as “stylish and eloquent”. Another review from that time of a performance of Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ said “her pure tone, secure intonation and liquid phrases made her an outstanding interpreter as well as an admirable partner in ensembles”. The late Paul Hamburger with whom she was privileged to work described her as “one of the finest young sopranos around”.

She was fortunate to be able to continue her studies on courses at the Britten-Pears School where she worked with many fine teachers including the late Sir Peter Pears. She also was awarded a scholarship to spend a summer studying French Song with Gerard Souzay at l’Academie Maurice Ravel, St. Jean-de-Luz, France.

Veronica has given many oratorio, concert and recital performances in Britain, France and Holland. These include several appearances in the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, the Wigmore Hall and in many English Cathedrals and Festivals. She was a featured artist on Anglia Television’s ‘Folio’ arts programme.

Operatic roles include performances as ‘Teofane’ (Handel’s Ottone), ‘Dido’ (Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas) and ‘Micaela’ (Bizet’s Carmen) which she performed in Snape Maltings.

Although still performing, teaching has become her main focus during recent years. She teaches and coaches all ages and enjoys the challenges of working with both experienced and less experienced singers.

In 2002 Veronica started working with the Choristers of St. Paul’s Cathedral and since 2003 took over as their sole singing teacher. She has a busy private practice and also enjoys giving masterclasses, and working at the Royal College Music Junior Department.

She is delighted to be working with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

She is married to the clarinettist David Campbell, with whom she gives trio recitals, and their son Jamie is a violinist.

She strongly believes in ongoing professional development and, as well as continuing her own vocal studies, regularly attends courses and conferences. She is a member of the British Voice Association, The Association of Teachers of Singing and the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
