Esther Jones
First Assistant Conductor
Esther Jones is a former NYC member and Alto II section leader. She read music at Oxford University, where she was organ scholar of University College. She studied choral conducting with Patrick Russill and Paul Brough at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won the Irene Burcher and Thomas Armstrong prizes. Last year she became the first Open Academy Fellow and is now the choral conducting tutor for the LRAM teaching diploma. She has also been a London Symphony Chorus Conducting Scholar and was the first Stanley Vann Church Music Scholar.
Esther is Director of the Church Music Skills Programme, a new distance-learning course run by the Royal School of Church Music, and is Director of Music at Christ Church, Epsom Common. She conducts several youth and adult choirs in the southeast, including the Esterhazy Singers of London, and is assistant conductor to the RSCM Millennium Youth Choir. She is also in demand as a vocal animateur and workshop leader, working for organizations including Glyndebourne Education and Opera North, and sings with Vox Angelica vocal trio.
