How do I join NYCGB?

We audition every year in November and December. All the information you need is on the Auditions page and on the application form, along with the guidelines section.

Why have I been put in a different voice part?

Please read the articles written by Dr Jenevora Williams, who is one of our consultant singing teachers, here.

Where do I buy NYCGB uniform?

Most of our uniform items are school-style, such as skirts and shirts, so try shops which stock school uniform and large department stores. Shirts for Junior and Training Choirs should be plain, school-style with long sleeves. If you are struggling to find an ankle-length skirt, we recommend trying to find a Ladies' style rather than childrens', or alternatively, a plain long pattern is fine. Neckerchiefs (Junior and Training Choir girls) and ties (for Junior boys) are provided on courses.

For main choir, blue NYC dresses are ordered through the office. NYC bow ties are available from Tie Rack, and details are available from the office for new members.

Girls' tights for all concerts must be black and 15 denier. Shoes should be all black and court-style, and comfortable enough to stand up for a whole concert (at least an hour).

Boys should wear smart black shoes and black socks.

How do I make payment to NYCGB?

You can either send a cheque made payable to The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain or contact the office for details of how to make a direct transfer.

We do not have the facilities for card payments at this time, but hope to make this available in the near future.

Please note that for merchandise orders, the price includes P&P.

Where do I get an NYC concert folder?

The Junior and Training Choir members need a black concert folder, which can be bought through the office. NYC concert folders are provided on courses.

What should I bring to my singing lesson?

Please bring a piece of music that you have worked on with your singing teacher that you know very well (ideally by heart). This will allow the teacher you see on a course to get to know your voice very quickly. Remember to bring enough music for both you and your teacher to use!
